AT 344.1 Uncle Johnny’s → AT 366.4 Stealth Campsite
Weather: PERFECT! Sunny, but lots of shade. Warm, but not too warm. Just right!
Trail Conditions: Sweaty climb early out of town, lots of ankle jostling after, then smooth sailing most of the day
My Condition: Feeling incredible! Blew past Walmart and Braids pretty early in the day, and passed Mountain Sage, another hiker who left Uncle Johnny’s about a mile before this camp spot. I’m the far hiker today!
Excellent day today! The climbs out of town always feel steeper and sweatier than they ought to, but maybe that’s the beer from yesterday talking! I’ve been feeling strong lately, but passing two known entities today in Walmart and Braids felt validating. Maybe I AM the real deal! There’s still a LONG way to go, but I felt great psychologically as well as physically today. Must have slept funny the night of the 29th, but I kinked my neck and couldn’t turn my head to the right very far. Today was definitely much better although the effects still somewhat linger. Sleeping in a real bed last night probably helped. I had an incredible time yesterday seeing Pat and Kelsey – wish we could’ve spent more time together. Maybe they’ll come hike some of Pennsylvania with me. I definitely felt a little nauseous driving yesterday – I’m so used to moving at 2-3 miles per hour, so 65 felt downright unnatural! Wasn’t sure if I was going to find a suitable spot to camp before dark, but just kept trucking and came across a great, albeit very windy, spot. The trail provides! I was even able to hang my damp clothes on trees and get them air dried before bed. It’ll feel downright luxurious not putting on somewhat, or very, damp clothes in the morning. The pine covered Unaka Mountain was pretty incredible – soft stepping on pine needles, an incredible interwoven ceiling of branches, and shy blazes hiding amongst the multitude of trees.
Post Trail Analysis
Not a ton to say about this day. Maybe it’s because I’m excited for tomorrow’s entry!!!!
