Tuesday, June 23 8:58 pm 0.0 mi

Daleville, VA 730.3

Weather: Hot and sunny, rain at 5 pm

Hotel: Super 8 (really nice!)

Shops: Krogers food resupply, Outdoor Trails new shoes and permethrin, Goodwill button down Hawaiian shirt

Food: Continental bfast hotel, General Tso’s rice bowl from Asian place by outfitter, Pancho’s mexican for dinner

My Condition: Reinvigorated and ready to be back on trail!

Saw lots of familiar faces today. Ran into Puddles, the cute gal I last saw at the Overmountain Shelter. Saw Running Bear, who I met at Angel’s Rest in Pearisburg before my rainy day. Saw the brother-sister duo from the Pine Swamp Branch shelter. Lisa gave her phone number to Dave and me – she lives in Charlottesville and would be happy to drive me anywhere when I come that way on the trail. Had lunch with Dave and dinner with Dave, She’s The One, and Joe Hikes. Have really enjoyed getting to know all of them. I’m hoping to do 20-25 miles tomorrow, but I wouldn’t be surprised to cross paths with any of these folks again. Never say goodbye on the trail! Dave thinks Four Pines may have had bedbugs – I’m glad I tented there!

Post Trail Analysis

Sadly, Daleville had been dealing with their fair share of COVID related issues according to the lovely receptionist at the Super 8. Pancho’s had just reopened the previous day, following a closure due to an employee having a suspected case. They had closed down for a few weeks, giving the staff time to quarantine, and spent the final week of the closure performing a thorough deep clean of the kitchen and restaurant. LOBO and I were planning to go to the Three Lil Pigs BBQ place by the Krogers, but they had just closed due to COVID. I think I crossed paths with Toy Story for the first time today at the outfitter, though we didn’t officially meet or introduce ourselves. I was super excited about the Hawaiian shirt I had picked out – button-down for increased air flow, not to mention incredibly stylish. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t work out in the long run, as it caused some terrible chafing. She’s The One invited Puddles to dinner, but she politely declined. Sadly, this would be the last time I saw She’s The One, Joe Hikes, or Dave/LOBO on trail, although we would continue to keep in touch via text for some time. I continued to pig out on as much town food as I could, snacking deep into the early evening when I fell asleep shortly after writing this entry.
