AT 1361.7 Stealth Site → AT 1374.6 Warwick/Drive In Theater
Weather: Rainy mid-afternoon while I was getting ice cream, otherwise hot and sunny
Trail Conditions: Very Whites-esque today! Rocky, rooty climbs
My Condition: Feeling great! Ankle less swollen today, really enjoyed ice cream and pizza and looking forward to the movie tonight
Hikers Met: HUMMINGBIRD!!!
Trail magic this morning from Jerzy – Coke and a Gatorade, which was PERFECT for a day with no real spots to refill water. Crossed into New York today. Talladega Nights tonight for movie night! Mark, shuttle driver, drove us to town and gave us a history tour of Warwick.
Post Trail Analysis
I was overwhelmed by opportunity upon arriving at the Creamery. So many delicious flavors to pick from! This place was packed, despite the impending storm. I huddled in an empty corner underneath the awning as I savored my white chocolate ice cream with raspberry swirl and dark chocolate chunks, more worried about whether I wanted to wait in line again for more ice cream than I was about getting soaked by the sideways sheets of rain blowing in. After the looping, twisting tour of historic Warwick, we were dropped off by the grocery store and pizza parlor next to the drive in theater. Here we were, at our first authentic New York pizza parlor waiting to pick up our order, when all of a sudden a car pulls up and a hiker hops out. Puddles recognized her immediately, and from this new hiker’s buzz cut and majestic rat tail, I put two and two together right away and realized that this must be the legend herself, the one and only Hummingbird. Aptly named for the quick, quiet way she glides up the trail without the click-clacking of trekking poles, you better watch the ice cream and the IPAs carefully around this rogue because they’ll disappear faster than you can blink! The Cheese Freaks/Syrup Sisters were finally fully assembled!!! She dropped in on us just in time for movie night at the Warwick Drive-In Theater. 3 different screens, each showing different back to back movies. I got all hopped up on Mountain Dew as we got to know this new addition to our trail family that we had already heard so much about, all while enjoying Madagascar and Talladega Nights from the comfort of our campsite at the back of the theater.
