Weather: Warm and sunny most of day, chilly from Graylock into shelter
Trail Conditions: Big downhill into town (and saw trail maintenance crew!) and long, gradual uphill to Mt. Graylock. Relatively easy, albeit rocky and rooty, terrain
My Condition: Ate myself into discomfort at Dunkin Donuts, but I regret nothing!
Feeling spoiled with all these towns and restaurants, and resupply options. Ate a sandwich, 5 donuts, and a large frozen chocolate. We got a ride to the outfitter, first stopping at the Polish Hermit’s farm where he generously gave us cups of ice and bottles of Gatorade. With my trekking poles falling apart (2 missing tips and baskets, cork handles ripping apart, locks slipping/poles changing length) I was hoping to buy a pair of Leki poles, which are repaired free of charge at any Leki retailer! No poles, but I found a bottle of 100% DEET for DEETaholic Puddles and met some cute pups. Caught Puddles at the top of Mt. Graylock, where we sat in the sun, soaked ourselves refilling water bottles in a notoriously messy spigot, and quickly checked out the view and hit the trail to stave off the chill. It’s definitely cooling off – I put my puffy on as soon as I got out of my sweaty hiker clothes.
Post Trail Analysis
I was already bundled up underneath my quilt and drifting off to bed when I heard the ruckus, but tonight Hummingbird and Puddles crossed paths with 5-Oh, who they knew from their time on trail pre-pandemic break!
