9/1/20 Day 118: Kinsman Notch (1803.6) to Stealth site (1816.0)

Tuesday, September 1 8:42 pm 12.4 mi

AT 1803.6 Kinsman Notch → AT 1816.0 Stealth Site

Weather: Cool, overcast, super windy atop the peaks

Trail Conditions: Tough, yet rewarding. Some section you’re bouldering more than hiking. Just have to take it slow though!

My Condition: Ready for bed! My internal clock is out of whack – not covering the same mileage at the same pace in the Whites

Might have the perfect project for Andy – LOTR fanfic called 50 Shades of Middle Earth. After it’s written and becomes an Oprah’s book club classic, it’ll be a perfect broadway show, on ice, on zoom because we’re still in a pandemic. Puddles is already working on the castings for some of the love triangles. Odie, after trying to convince us to zero and hang out with him today watching Lord of the Rings, drove us back to the trail. Crossed paths with quite a few SOBOs, including Pan from the Angel’s Rest Hostel (the employee who checked me in).

Post Trail Analysis

All these LOTR fanfic discussions were setting the stage for something bigger. While Puddles and I both appreciated the Lord of the Rings for the brilliant stories they are, in a world of Hunger Games love triangles and Twilight love triangles, Tolkien definitely missed some opportunities to appeal to a much broader audience. In a moment of pure inspiration, Puddles and I had a lightbulb moment. And thus, 50SOMEOBOIOZ (50 Shades Of Middle Earth On Broadway On Ice On Zoom) was born. Hamilton is all the rage, and being on Broadway makes it better. Shrek is fun, but on ice? Better! We are in a pandemic, so on Zoom is a necessity, although it definitely doesn't make it better. Back to 50SOMEOBOIOZ - Aragorn and Arwen...or Eowyn?!? Gandalf and Galadriel, or Galadriel and Gimli? A love-hate triangle between Frodo and Smeogol and Gollum? Maybe the ents didn’t actually lose the ent-wives...maybe the ent-wives were just PINING after someone else (get it?? PINE-ING? TREE JOKE!!!)? So much unexplored territory and such a wide mass-appeal!
