Updated: Nov 29, 2021

Saturday, September 26 7:18 pm 19.5 mi

AT 2125.2 East Branch Lean-to → AT 2144.7 Potaywadjo Spring Lean-to

Weather: Warm, humid, sunny

Trail Conditions: Amazing fall color, relatively flat

My Condition: Feeling great!

Had to be at Jo-Mary Road between 2-3 pm to get my food drop from Shaw’s. We got there at about 1 pm to find a sign for TRAIL MAGIC right up the road! We wandered up to find Poet and most of the folks who were staying at Shaw’s – big crowd, which is so surprising to me being in the 100 Mile Wilderness. Chili, cornbread, Mountain Dew, Coke, PBR, Oreos, Ritz crackers, everything!

Post Trail Analysis

The trail never ceases to surprise you. The sign at the beginning of the 100 Mile Wilderness reads as follows:

Caution – There are no places to obtain supplies or get help until Abol Bridge 100 miles north. Do not attempt this section unless you have a minimum of 10 days supplies and are fully equipped. This is the longest wilderness section of the entire AT and its difficulty should not be underestimated. Turn back, if ye value your lives! Good hiking!

I may have added a line somewhere in there, but you get the gist. Out here, in the middle of nowhere, where I felt the need to order a food drop, we received trail magic! One of our lovely hosts was wearing Pittsburgh Steelers gear, which I greatly appreciated.
