8/24/20 Day 110: US Route 4 (1704.0) to Chateauguay Road campsite (1718.6)

Monday, August 24 10:20 pm 14.6 mi

AT 1704.0 US Route 4 → AT 1718.6 Chateauguay Rd Campsite

Weather: Warm and overcast, small storm cell in afternoon when passing shelter

Trail Conditions: Less crowded now that we’re off the Long Trail. Terrain-wise, not awful

My Condition: Never got in rhythm today – felt like I turtled my way along. Felt weak, or maybe I’m just experiencing the town-hangover and overencumbered with food weight

McDonalds this morning – they had an employee outside scrubbing down the drive thru walls as cars passed. Met SOBO hiker Gina and saw Boomerang again, along with Hummingbird, at shelter waiting out the storm. Two blocks of cheese, a sleeve of oreos, a bag of sour patch kids, and half a bag of croutons for dinner

Post Trail Analysis

I’m glad I wrote down what I ate – I forgot how much I enjoyed hiking with bags of croutons!! The cheesy garlic kick, the crunch, their ability to hold up to being crammed into a food bag or pocket without losing their structural integrity – so much to love! More unsolicited advice tonight – at dusk, we were all in our tents when we heard footsteps approaching. A gruff voice called out “you shouldn’t camp by roads, it’s not safe.” Oh my stars, thank the heavens you came along and saved us damsels from distress or whatever would we do?! We don’t know who came past or why they felt the need to impose their opinion upon us, but they didn’t stop and kept walking down the trail in the same way the information entered through one ear and quickly trickled right out the other for all of us.
