9/13/20 Day 130: East B Hill Road (1936.1) to Bemis Stream Trail stealth site (1952.3)

Sunday, September 13 8:24 pm 16.2 mi

AT 1936.1 East B Hill Rd → AT 1952.3 Bemis Stream Trail Stealth Site

Weather: Cool and overcast, light drizzle PM walking into camp

Trail Conditions: Moody Mountain Guthook comments made it seem like we’d be doing the roller coaster and Mahoosic Notch all at once. So much of what you hear about the trail is WAY overdramatic. Today wasn’t bad!

My Condition: Felt like my body could have handled a few more miles today. Despite a short, quick night at the Cabin for resupply, shower, and laundry, I returned to the trail feeling well rested (more than a lot of zeros!)

Great night of sleep! Hopper did a great job taking care of us, and Honey was quite sweet as well. Quite a lovely resupply night – very efficient. The past few days, conversations with day hikers have gone much differently. Now, we’re starting to get “Congratulations!” and “When do you expect to be summitting?” from the folks we pass by instead of “are you thru hiking?” Wow!

Post Trail Analysis

Moody Mountain was also supposed to be riddled with wasp nests, but I did not find any evidence of them despite my searching and my natural ability to draw stinging insects to me. I do remember a very distinct shift in the conversations with passing hikers upon reaching Maine. The people we’d run into seemed to have a great respect, appreciation, and understanding of what it was we were doing, and it felt really good to hear someone congratulate me on an amazing journey, even if I still had a couple hundred miles left to walk!
